Mechanical Testing & Evaluation

Mechanical testing is the process of placing material test samples under loads designed to cause the sample to fail or break.  Upon failure, data is recorded to determine the specific mechanical properties of the material.  The data is then reported to the client, and the information is used to determine if a project can move forward or if corrective action needs to be taken prior to putting the material in use out in the field.

If the material passes; engineers, project managers, and decision-makers can confidently proceed knowing that they have trustworthy data on the properties of their material which they are using for a specific application.  If the material fails, it can delay a project from moving forward, but in the long run you will avoid costly liability and potentially save lives.

Quality Testing, Inc. specializes in the mechanical testing of metals, using sophisticated CNC technology and industry standard test methods giving you the confidence you need to make an informed decision regarding your material.

Mechanical Testing Lab Services

Our mechanical testing lab services provide fast, and accurate test data.  Our capabilities include:
  • Tensile Testing up to 120,000 lbs.,
  • Charpy Impact Testing up to 300 foot pounds,
  • Hardness Testing
    • Brinell Hardness
    • Rockwell Hardness
    • Vickers Microhardness
  • Guided Bend Testing
  • Chemical Composition Analysis
  • Drop Weight Tear Testing

These tests are designed to provide you with specific information regarding:
  • Tensile Strength
  • Yield Strength
  • Elongation
  • Reduction of Area
  • Ductility
  • Shear
  • Lateral Expansion
  • Hardness

Verify or Establish Material Pedigree

Often a tensile test and a chemical composition analysis is the minimum amount of  data required for material characterization.  However, when additional testing is performed for the purpose of verifying a MTR (Mill Test Report or Manufacturers Test Report)  or establishing a certified material test report by an independent third-party laboratory, then  adding a hardness test is the best way to create a complete picture of the material in question.
