Tensile Testing
Tensile testing of steel and metal products subjects a machined or full-section specimen of a material under examination to a measured load or force sufficient to cause rupture, and is defined by ASTM A370 - Standard Test Methods & Definitions for Mechanical Testing of Steel Products &
ASTM E8 - Standard Test Method for Tension Testing of Metallic Materials. This test method covers the tensile testing to determine material characteristics such as:
Tensile tests provide information on the strength and ductility of materials under uni-axial tensile stresses. It is the function of the gripping or holding device of the tensile testing machine to transmit the load or force from the crossheads of the machine to the specimen under test. The essential requirement is that the load is transmitted axially. This implies that the centers of the action of the grips are in alignment with the axis of the specimen at the beginning of, and during the test such that bending or twisting be held to a minimum. Tensile Strength Testing Quality Testing, Inc. provides tensile strength testing services using a 120,000 Lb Tinius Olsen Super L machine retrofit with Admet MTEST software. A separate 5 K and a 1 K load cell can be used for low loads. All tensile test specimens are milled to precise standards in our dedicated machine shop to ensure that our data is reliable and accurate.
